Summer is coming, and this usually means the Gion Matsuri first events will soon start.Â
I thought it’d be nice to show a few photos I captured over the years at the various events and ceremonies taking place across the city. Let’s not forget that this festival is much more than one huge parade, the “Yamahoko Junko” that attracts about 800.000 visitors to Kyoto. The city lives differently during the entire month of July, with various parties, events, and ceremonies taking place around the city. The mood and energy are special and can be felt around the whole city.
